masks

Think about Venice nothing more to write and not be able to show? And that's not guessed!
(This, of course, Venice in the understanding of the same, already hackneyed Perez)

After all, there is action in the Venice carnival called.
On the origin of carnival special no disagreement - all agree on the fact that its origins lie in the Roman festival of Saturnalia, which took place after the harvest (it was something to celebrate!), Somewhere just beyond the winter solstice (the same peninsula, not Kola!) . And on the occasion of the table were open to all - and gentlemen, and slaves. That no one is confused class distinctions, all invited wore masks - guess Patricia Lee in front of you or the city office was only possible by the way a person holds. Overall - "how to put - so service holiday and spend it" (c).
The first documentary evidence of the Venice Carnival refers to 1094, when the snow mentioned in the chronicle of the Doge Vitale Falera, and since 1296 the last day before the beginning of Lent, the Venetian Senate officially declared the day of the carnival.

There is disagreement about the etymology of the word "carnival". One said it was derived from "carne vale" (that is to say "goodbye meat" - as it happens before Lent), and who carries it the appearance of a thousand or two years ahead of time, linking with the concept of "Carrum navalis" (sacred boat, which carried the deity fertility).

Regardless of the origin of the concept, the Venetian Carnival in medieval and Post-Medieval Europe was an important social event as it still is today.

Opening of the Venice Carnival 2008
Carnival offers an old Venetian holiday - Festa delle Marie, which is dedicated to the liberation of the Venetian girls kidnapped by pirates from Istria. St. Mark's Square is played presentation "commedia dell'arte", and then begins a carnival procession. Each carnival has a peculiar dedication and theme.

Today we are waiting for the Venetian carnival mask

First - as they saw Fabian Perez

Now, just about masks. Despite the apparent diversity masks their classification is quite stable and logically from the tradition of comedy del'Arte - Italian theater of the Renaissance.

Carnival organizers themselves cause the following

"During the carnival, Venetians used to dress up in the oddest of ways. A document with the strange title of" Different ways of dressing up for carnival introduced by both men and women alike during the 18th century "lists the different costumes in use. Here are but a few:
In the 18th century, according to surviving descriptions ("Different ways of dressing up for carnival introduced by both men and women alike during the 18th century") typical carnival costumes were the order of 40 images., Among them as belonging to a profession or employment (fisherman with a fishing rod, a robber, bretёr hunter with a toy gun, a soldier, a lawyer with his papers, peasant girl, chef, doctor), and to the national (Turkish with a pipe, a resident of the island of Burano, disabled from Gaul, Armenians, Jews) and do not forget the animals and mythical characters (like a trained bear on a chain, demon or satire). Special place occupied characters del'Arto theater - Doctor Brighella, Pulcinella, Pierrot - in general, the entire classical repertoire (8 characters, or if you take more and Neapolitan tradition - all 16 masks)

Sam canon carnival to in it, not knowing the script (which, moreover, prescribed in detail just is not) open to all visitors to any educated enough to understand the Italian (and anyone who is familiar with the classical European culture). It is based on the Italian commedia dell'arte del Arte (itself descended from the leading traditional medieval mystery and vulgar farces).
