Fabulous St. Petersburg Vladimir Kolbasov

Artist-poet Vladimir Kolbasov, creates fantastic city landscapes, painting with watercolor gives the paintings a special lightness and transparency. Vladimir masterfully reflects the glare of the light in every work, even in tightly closed courtyards-wells. And with subtle weightless strokes, St. Petersburg from the cold imperial capital, from the city "humiliated and offended", turns into a bright, Anderson-like fairy-tale, unique world. The whole city seems to be reflected in the water, the houses dance to the smooth rhythm of the city, the trees are bent in the greeting of the townspeople, and the bridges seem to soar in the sky. The lines drawn by Vladimir do not follow the shortest path straight from point to point, but move, as they are interested.

A distinctive feature of Kolbasov's works is a scrupulous drawing of the smallest details that give the canvases authenticity and special charm. The artist prefers to work with watercolor, rather than than with oil. Only with the help of watercolors, he can fully express everything he has conceived, with a light touch of the brush he manages to write out a barely noticeable game of sunlight on the surface of the Niva River. Working with oil is almost impossible to achieve the same ease and clarity, layers of oil give the paintings roughness.

I can not believe that all the fairy-tale city landscapes, painterly painted by the artist, have an exact address, and they can easily be found in St. Petersburg strolling along quiet streets.

Vladimir Kolbasov, who was born in Leningrad in 1960 and lived all his life in a beloved city, tries to capture Peter in his works, as he remembered it from his childhood, with calm quiet streets, large puddles, drizzling rain and noble architecture. Petersburgers often attend personal exhibitions of the master, finding in his works echoes of his childhood, mentally returning to his native city, without new glass metal structures on the centuries-old streets of St. Petersburg and smog and smoke outside the window.
